Week 6 – Face emerges
Now that you enter your 6th week, your pregnancy starts to feel like a real deal! After having your regular checkup with your gynecologist, you look forward to seeing and learning more about your growing little one!
So, let’s summarize the main events that you will see in this week:
The little one is nestled within the uterus and is a quarter of an inch long, close to that of a size of a lentil (masoor ki dal).
The adorable face that you are eagerly anticipating also starts forming. Your baby’s nose, mouth, and ears begin to develop by now.
The tongue and vocal cords are just starting to form within your baby’s mouth.
The baby’s heart is also changing – initially, in the 5th week it was a single tube, now it has changed into a four-chamber organ to pump blood.
Other organs such as the intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to your baby’s lungs also appears.
Also, your baby’s intestines, rest of the brain, bones, and muscles develop. The pituitary gland similarly starts forming.
Developmental Milestones Summary:
Your baby’s facial features start forming i.e., nose, mouth, and ears take shape, and various structures especially the intestines and brain begin to develop.
If you missed your ultrasound last week, then it is vital to get one this week, to compare the proper growth of your baby. The baby-to-be forms a “C” by curving inward, with the umbilical cord in the middle. Small buds can be seen where the arms and legs will eventually develop. Also, the head appears to be situated on the upper right side of the image. Most importantly, your baby has a strong heartbeat!
