Relaxation is the best way to keep stress at bay during pregnancy. All is well! Keep repeating that to yourselves whenever you are trying to cope with the symptoms, anxiety or complications. Relax to escape from stress hormones that can affect the development of the fetus. Here are few tips to keep your cool at all times

Deep breathing

This relaxation technique helps to keep your heart rate low and to reduce tension. Lie down on your back and breath in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Remember to hold the breath for a few seconds in between.

Muscle relaxation

Tensing the muscles for a few moments and then releasing is a better way to feel relaxed. Tense each muscle for a few seconds and then gradually release them. This is sure to bring better sleep.

Exercises

Physical exercises, yoga, and meditation (all done under expert supervision) also help in relaxing the muscles. This is helpful in getting good quality sleep too. Meditation helps in lowering the levels of stress hormone, cortisol. It helps to make you feel relaxed and to concentrate better.

A professionally done massage, tailored for pregnancy, can definitely help in relaxing. Lower-back massage, relaxation massage, or an aromatherapy are helpful in de-stressing.

Healthy diet

A healthy diet is the best way to feel pepped up for most parts of the day. Include more of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet to keep depression away. Drink lots of water to keep oneself well hydrated, as dehydration also affects the mood.

Talk about your feelings

Talking about your worries to your near and dear ones will automatically help in relaxation. Being honest with your thoughts will help in gathering support and help you and your partner to relax. You may also seek support from other moms-to-be in the same stage of pregnancy for reassurance.
