Your body goes through a lot of physiological changes during pregnancy. ¬†This period calls for heightened caution to manage and prevent diseases. So let’s look at the most common disorders prevalent during pregnancy.

Disorders during pregnancy can be broadly classified into 3.

  • Pre-existing disorders like high blood pressure and diabetes
  • Disorders that develop during pregnancy but not directly related to the pregnancy
  • Disorders those are more likely to occur during pregnancy

Women who suffer from issues like high BP, diabetes should ideally consult a doctor before they plan for pregnancy. They should ensure that the disorder is under control and manage it throughout the pregnancy. It pays to be in the best physical condition while conceiving.

One should also be wary of disorders like high fever, infection, or diseases affecting the abdominal region like appendicitis, gall bladder disease, ovarian cyst etc. These might not be directly related to the pregnancy but may trigger conditions that are risky for both the expectant mother as well as the unborn child.

Women are more susceptible to some diseases during pregnancy due to the changes happening inside her body.  Examples are;

Biochemical changes in the endocrine system and brain chemistry might result in pregnant women developing some psychological problems too. Antepartum depression is one of the most widely seen conditions.
